About The Magazine

Image Counselor, the Magazine for Addiction Professionals is a national, peer-reviewed publication that blends the in-depth information often found in journals with the ease-of-read and style of a magazine.

The magazine has a circulation of 21,000+ addiction treatment professionals – including psychologists, psychiatrists, counselors, criminal justice personnel, nurses, clinical supervisors, social workers, and mental health counselors.

The bi-monthly publication (February, April, June, August, October, and December) features in-depth articles written by the top experts in the addiction treatment field. In addition, each issue of Counselor features several columns – On the Web, Research to Practice, Professional Development and Alternative Therapies – that deliver practical and useful advice to addiction professionals. Readers can also earn CE credits by completing the quizzes included in each issue.

In 2007, Counselor provided an in-depth look at topics about chronic addiction and recovery management; how to keep clients in treatment; counseling chemically dependent,  hard-to-reach males; yoga as a healer; sex offenders in addiction treatment; "love" addiction; implications of online counseling; and much more.

Features slated for 2008 include topics about addiction in Baby Boomers, involving children in the recovery process, adolescent violence, ADHD and addictions, science-based theory regarding addiction as a brain disease, holistic remedies, ethics issues, BiPolar disorder and substance abuse, implications of online counseling, gay and lesbian substance abuse treatment, gambling addictions, and much more.

In each issue of Counselor, addiction treatment professionals also are provided with assessment tools and expert advice through award-winning writers and researchers, all of whom are top experts in the addiction treatment field.
