What is Recovery?

An essay on the subject of “What is Recovery” raises, for me, the question of what is Addiction. Since everyone of us has an idea, our own idea, of what Addiction is, we'll also have our own answer to “What is Recovery?”

Since we don’t have agreement in our field on what Addiction is, I doubt that we can come up with an easy agreement on what recovery is. I could just tell you my definition of both but my goal is not for us to have a debate over which we can come to a resolution. My goal is that we all look at ourselves and how we got to this question. It may be, that after examining ourselves, we may choose to change the question we ask.

Sobriety and Maturity — Is There a Connection?
Columns - Opinion
Written by Brian Duffy, MA, LMHC
Friday, 04 January 2008
You’re in a restaurant, and a child at the next table (they’re always at the next table) begins to act up. He wants what he wants — and he wants it now. He is the center of his universe. He is being a child. That’s his job. It causes me to consider the parallels between the child’s behavior and that of the person in early recovery. The road to maturity is one of delaying our gratification, walking through our fears, accepting that life is hard, learning how to bond and have fun with others, coping with hardship, practicing patience and tolerance, etc. Although we worry about adolescents who use substances to eliminate the pain of normal development, these lessons can be learned and relearned at any age.

The role of maturity has important implications for all people recovering from substance dependence. When clients pursue maturity, they’re moving toward recovery, and vice versa.

Self-efficacy

Children from supportive families often hear encouraging words such as: “C’mon, you can do it. Great job! You’re the best.” Unfortunately, many of our clients reach adulthood without ever hearing “Attaboy.” Worse, they are told that they are “losers” and that they’ll never amount to anything. Their addictive behavior only solidifies that role in the eyes of their loved ones.

As We Know, WOW GOLD is the main currency of World of warcraft. You need it to purchase wow
equipment upgrades, repair your armor, learn new spells and abilities,
travel around the world and even re-learn your talents if you decide
to re-spec. wow gold is required for success in any trade you partake in as
well. Materials you need for your trade skill are not always
available, nor do you necessarily possess the skill to gather it. An
Alchemist may need items that only an Enchanter can produce, whilst
a Leatherworker may require the services of a Blacksmith to craft a
suit of leather armor. Without WoW GoldGuide, your character is
doomed failure.for more about thgold.org
