SAMHSA is facing a funding cut if the 2012 funding levels proposed by a House subcommittee on healthcare appropriations were to become law. The bill would cut their funding by 8.4%, the same level as 12 years ago and this spending reduction would put into crisis the country’s mental health and addictions programs that receive funding from SAMHSA funds. The House and Senate are going into negotiations on the 2012 budget this week and SAMHSA is calling for your help to keep the cuts from being enacted into law. Representative Grace Napolitano (D-CA) is circulating a Dear Colleague letter that urges the Congress to reject the House’s bill that cuts some of the funding to SAMHSA. There must be widespread support demonstrated for mental health and addictions funding to ensure the prevention of the budget cut. By gaining the signature of your representative on the letter, support for behavioral health can be built and support for their bargaining position on the budget negotiations can be strengthened. Please follow the link below to write your representative and urge them to support SAMHSA now. http://capwiz.com/thenationalcouncil/issues/alert/?alertid=55663941&queueid=[capwiz:queue_id]
