Alcohol Ban for Anyone Convicted of DUI in Oklahoma

A potential law in Oklahoma could crack down on people convicted with a DUI by preventing them from purchasing or consuming alcohol.

The bill is championed by Senator Patrick Anderson (R-OK) and will “require convicted drivers to exchange their license for a new piece of identification marked ‘alcohol restricted’” (Ackerman, 2015). The courts would determine the length of the restriction.

Individuals and businesses would also be accountable for knowingly selling, delivering or furnishing alcohol to a person who has been court-ordered to abstain from drinking. The fine of $1000 of a prison sentence of up to one year would be the penalty for such actions.

Oklahoma is already the toughest state for convicted drunk drivers.
