Governor Andrew Cuomo of New York recently signed bills for 270 new treatment beds in the state and for $10.5 million in funding to six new recovery centers (Olds, 2016).

New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services Commissioner Arlene González-Sánchez visited one of the treatment centers in Watertown, called Pivot, and stated, “Recovery from the disease of addiction is possible with community-based supports and a substance-free environment where peers can assist each other in their recovery journey. Pivot will be able to use this funding to continue their good work and help more upstate New Yorkers maintain a healthy lifestyle, right in Jefferson County” (Olds, 2016).

Aside from Pivot, the funding will be awarded over the course of five years to treatment centers in Long Island, Staten Island, Newburgh, Saratoga Springs, and Buffalo, New York.
