CHAPEL HILL, N.C., November 25, 2019 (Newswire.com) – For anyone recovering from an addiction, the winter holidays can be especially tough — family stress alone can be enough to push some people back over the edge. To help, In The Rooms, the global recovery community, will host free, live, online Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), Narcotics Anonymous (NA) and Adult Children Anonymous (ACA) meetings on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day.
“The holidays are a slippery slope — there can be a lot of alcohol or drugs involved, and people in recovery need a safe place so they’re not tempted,” says In The Rooms co-founder Ron Tannebaum.
Tannebaum, along with co-founder Ken Pomerance, have modeled these holiday meetings after the 24-hour face-to-face meetings they see happening in cities across the country: “People were very comforted in these meetings, and we wanted to do that on In The Rooms,” says Pomerance.
The live, online holiday meetings can help those in recovery who are dealing with general stress, family resentment or unresolved trauma over the holidays, as well as providing a way to attend a meeting if someone in recovery is traveling and away from their regular meeting.
Tannebaum says that people will log in to these holiday meetings looking for some respite from trying family situations.
“The family isn’t always a comfortable place for an addict,” says Tannebaum. Pomerance agrees: “After all, who can push your buttons more than your family?”
Pomerance and Tannebaum are excited to be able to offer these meetings once again: “We do this so people have a safe and secure place to be during the holidays,” says Tannebaum. “Feeling safe and secure is so important.”
The AA meeting will start at 6 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day and will end at midnight, the NA meeting will start at 1 p.m. and end at 11 p.m., and the ACA meeting will start at 11 a.m. and end at 11 p.m. All times are EST. Additional holiday meetings will take place on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
