NIDA Updates Heroin Research Report

Ever since the death of famed Hollywood star Phillip Seymour Hoffman in February, heroin abuse is once again making headlines. Due to this rise in public concern over the drug, the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) recently revised their Heroin Research Report.
In addition to revising the report, NIDA also revised regional trends for heroin use and other drugs. These trends are reported by the Community Epidemiology Work Group (CEWG), “a network of researchers that provides ongoing community-level surveillance of drug abuse in major cities,” according to NIDA (2014).
Originally published in 1997, the updated Heroin Research Report features the latest information about heroin use, consequences of use, and treatment options.
